11-06-04: Growing media attention for TSS

There is a growing media interest in the system that can determine the efficiency of football players during a match.

Besides the front-page article in De Telegraaf (see news archive), some other media institutions which have shown interest in the system, developed by Team Support Systems (TSS) and University of Groningen (RUG), are the SBS 6 television programme Hart van Nederland, TV Noord 's Noord Achtergrond, Edwin Evers from Radio 538 and the Groninger Internet Courant.

On Friday 11 June, a link to the TSS website was placed on the popular Dutch internet site www.nu.nl. This led to such an influx of visitors that the site was temporarily unavailable. Thanks to the quick response of provider Essent, the capacity of the site was increased to four times its original level.

On VARA-TV

Saturday night 12 June, TSS director Gert Jan Wormmeester and prof. Gerard Sierksma from the RUG will be guests on the new VARA television programme 'Nieuwslicht'. From 9.15 p.m. on Nederland 3, Paul Witteman will be presenting current affairs from a scientific perspective.

The item on TSS can be seen at 9.30 p.m. - half-time in the match between Spain and Russia which will be shown by the NOS on Nederland 2.

Some media institutions (e.g. VPRO, Teleac, Radio Noord, the Eindhovens, Dagblad, het Dagblad van het Noorden and the German 'Zondagsreport') have shown interest in the analysis TSS will make of the first Dutch European Championship match against Germany on Tuesday night June 15.

The system, Effectivity in Action, shows the efficiency of the team (defence, midfield and attack) and the efficiency development of individual players at any moment during the match by presenting them graphically. During the European Championships in Portugal, the system will be used to analyse the players of the Dutch team.
